FAQs
Can you cut the transducer cable during installation?
No. Cutting the transducer cable will void your warranty. Never cut the cable.
How do you test for leaks after transducer installation?
Check your boat for leaks around any screw holes added below the water line before leaving it in the water for an extended period.
Where should the cable-entry cover be installed if routing the cable through the transom?
Install the cable-entry cover over the pilot hole and cable, with the opening pointing downward, and seal with marine sealant.
How should the cable-entry cover be installed for a transom pass-through?
Place the cover over the hole and cable with the opening downward, mark and drill pilot holes, seal with marine sealant, and secure with screws.
How should you seal screws when installing the transducer on the transom?
Apply marine sealant to all screw threads to prevent water from seeping into the transom.
What should be used to coat the transducer for long-term water exposure?
Use a water-based anti-fouling paint to coat the transducer and mounting hardware for protection against marine growth.
What’s the guidance for mounting the transducer on twin-drive boats?
The transducer should be mounted between the drives if possible for best performance.
How should the transducer be positioned on boats with clockwise-rotating propellers?
Mount the transducer on the starboard (right) side if the propeller moves clockwise when the boat is moving.
Where should the transducer be mounted on single-drive boats?
Mount as close to the centerline as possible but at least 38 cm (15 in.) from the propeller; avoid the propeller path and turbulent water.
Can the transducer cable be routed near ignition or high-energy wires?
You should route the cable away from ignition wires, batteries, and high-energy wires to avoid noise and interference.
What is the minimum compass safe distance for the STRIKER 5 Series device?
Keep the device at least 25 cm (9.84 in.) away from a compass.
How should the transducer be attached to a trolling motor?
Attach the transducer with hose clamps, point the narrow end away from the propeller, and secure the cable with waterproof tape.
What safety warning is given regarding navigation with this device?
The device is a navigational aid and does not replace prudent operation or official charts.
How should you prepare the transducer for marine growth protection?
Lightly sand, clean with isopropyl alcohol, and coat with water-based anti-fouling paint (never acetone-based) for long-term water exposure.
