Designed for motor boats, the Reactor 40 hydraulic autopilot gives you a hand so that you can explore paradise without worries.
Compatibility with corepack
This corepack is the perfect autopilot solution for any type of motor boats with hydraulic steering systems with inboard, outboard, mixed and diesel engine, or sailboats with hydraulic steering system1. Requires a compatible Garmin plotter or a GHC 50 autopilot instrument.
Ahrs of 9-AXIS solid state
The advanced 9-axis solid-state AHRS system allows you to install the Reactor 40 unit in virtually anywhere and orientation. It even reduces energy consumption, minimizes course errors and much more.
Ability to react to water conditions
Keep the course at sea: this autopilot reacts to the conditions, so you can maintain peace of mind even when nooing or rocking movements occur.
Simple calibration
All automatic pilots require a commissioning and calibration process. Reactor 40 makes it quick and easy.
Wireless remote functions
Control the autopilot from anywhere on the boat using your compatible Garmin devices, including the Reactor autopilot remote control, certain quatix® nautical watches and many more (requires a compatible Garmin plotter or a GHC 50 autopilot instrument).
Shadow drive™ technology
Maneuver the boat with greater freedom. This corepack allows the optional Shadow Drive technology to automatically disable the autopilot when turning the rudder.
Ghc 50 optional pack
Combine the Reactor 40 hydraulic autopilot with the GHC 50 autopilot instrument to add a specific touch screen for the autopilot to the control bridge. In addition, GHC 50 allows you to share data and settings with Garmin multifunction displays and other Garmin devices installed.
Functions for sailing and motor boats
When connected to a compatible Garmin plotter, all Reactor 40 corepacks offer functions for sailing and motor boats, such as heading and wind control, step turns and turning/transfer maneuvers when paired with a wind sensor (sold separately). You can even enjoy other advantages, such as route tracking and Auto Guidance+™2 functions.

How do you access the Dockside Wizard for configuration?
After turning on the autopilot, access the Dockside Wizard via the helm control or compatible chartplotter under Autopilot Installation Setup > Wizards.
Who should install the Reactor 40 autopilot system?
The autopilot system should be installed by a qualified marine installer due to the need for knowledge of marine steering and electrical systems.
How should you test the rudder direction after wiring?
Use the test feature to ensure the rudder moves left when prompted for left, and right when prompted for right; switch direction if incorrect.
How can you set north for heading alignment?
With a GPS device connected, drive in a straight line at cruising speed, downwind with current, and follow on-screen instructions to align heading.
How should you proceed if the Autotune procedure fails immediately and the boat travels in circles?
Select Switch Direction, then Run Standard Autotune, and repeat the procedure until successful.
How is the rudder sensor calibrated during setup?
Move the rudder fully to starboard, then fully to port, and then center it; the autopilot then calibrates the rudder automatically.
How is the speed source selected?
If using NMEA 2000 engines, select Tach. N2K or Proprietary; otherwise, use GPS. Garmin recommends an external GPS antenna for GPS mode.
How do you perform autopilot autotuning?
In calm water at cruising speed, start the Autotune procedure via the helm or chartplotter; the boat will make zigzag motions as it tunes automatically.
How do you check the magnetic environment quality after compass calibration?
After calibration, a magnetic environment quality value is shown. A value of 100 indicates a perfect magnetic environment for the CCU.
