Description
Overview
The V block delivers another breakthrough in Harken’s loop block series for Grand-Prix racers. Harken engineers have simplified the mechanics by combining the axial and thrust bearings into a single bearing set of V-shaped titanium rollers. The result is a strong, lightweight block that offers unmatched efficiency at high loads, while spinning freely at low loads for smooth easing in light air. Harken V blocks are standard with 3D-molded carbon sideplates, titanium sheave, and captive titanium roller bearings. V blocks are easy to disassemble for inspection and maintenance.

FAQs
Is specialized training required for installation or maintenance?
Yes, only users with appropriate training should specify, install, or maintain this product to avoid damage or injury.
How should I select fasteners and mounting hardware for installation?
Use fasteners sized, typed, and in quantities as dictated by the product design, choosing materials that meet or exceed the maximum working load. For any mounting that involves different metals, ensure isolation to prevent corrosion.
What are key installation considerations for the Harken 1.5T Carbon Loop V Block?
It's crucial to ensure that mounting structures and anchors are at least equal to or greater than the product’s maximum working load and to follow industry best practices for rigging and load alignment.
Are there special precautions for corrosion prevention during installation?
When mounting to dissimilar metals (like aluminum or carbon), use isolation compounds such as Tef-Gel or Duralac to prevent galvanic corrosion. Regularly inspect for corrosion near fasteners.
Is it necessary to use anti-corrosion measures during installation?
Yes, anti-corrosion isolation (such as Tef-Gel or Duralac) should be used when mounting to prevent galvanic corrosion between dissimilar metals or carbon surfaces.
What tools are required for V Block inspection and maintenance?
You need a metric hex key, soapy water solution, solvent, and purple Loctite adhesive for long-term maintenance of V Blocks.
What are the safety requirements before using the V block?
Ensure all objects and people are clear of moving parts. Strictly follow all provided instructions to avoid hazards and injury. Only trained personnel should install and maintain the product.
What tools and supplies are required for long-term V block maintenance?
You will need a metric hex key, soapy water solution, solvent to clean grease, Harken winch grease, and 222 Purple Loctite adhesive.
How often should I perform long-term maintenance?
Overhaul and clean the block at least twice a year and after prolonged or heavy use, or before long-term storage. Immediate attention is needed if operation is rough or noisy.
How should I store the block for long periods?
Store your block in a dry location after performing long-term maintenance. Avoid leaving saltwater on internal components, as this shortens service life.
What safety warnings should be observed during use and maintenance?
Always ensure all people and objects are clear of moving parts before operation. Lack of proper maintenance or incorrect procedures can result in injury or equipment failure.
Who should perform installation and service procedures?
Installation, disassembling and reassembling should only be done by expert personnel with appropriate training to avoid damage or injury.
When should roller bearings be replaced during maintenance?
Replace roller bearings if their surfaces are rough, scored, or have flat spots detected during inspection.
What should be inspected and replaced along with the bearings?
Inspect all aluminum parts for wear or corrosion and replace as necessary during maintenance.
What should be checked during short-term maintenance?
Inspect all components for signs of wear or weakness, ensure fasteners are secure, and check that drainage channels are unobstructed.
Are there guidelines for orientation or mounting alignment?
Mount and align blocks to ensure load is directly aligned with the intended direction and structure. Misalignment can reduce capacity and increase wear.
What care should be taken when replacing lashings and loops?
Replace lashings and loops only with Harken supplied or specified parts to maintain the proper strength and reliability.
What substances can affect the finish, and are they covered by warranty?
Exposure to teak cleaners or caustic solutions can discolor the part and this is not covered by the warranty.
What should I do if the sheave spins roughly or there is a grinding sound?
Do not use the block until the cause is determined and repaired. Immediate overhaul and component inspection is required.
Are sideload balls used in the V Block design?
No, V Blocks do not use sideload balls, so there is no need to catch any during disassembly.
Should I lubricate the bearings or other internal components?
Lubrication is specified only for certain areas; if not indicated, simply clean the product. Greasing parts not specified for lubrication can cause bearing skidding and wear.
Is there any specific lubricant or adhesive to be used during reassembly?
Use Harken winch grease for bearings and 222 Purple Loctite adhesive to secure fasteners when reassembling V Blocks.
Are there any precautions when disassembling the bearing cage?
Do not force the bearing cage during disassembly due to the split cage and cutout design, as it may break.
How are the sheave and bearing assembly of the V Block constructed?
The bearing set uses a cutout in the inner race and a split cage; utilize these features for correct disassembly and reassembly.
Should you grease the V Block unless specified?
Do not grease the product unless specified; improper greasing can cause bearings to skid instead of roll, causing wear.
