Overview
A Harken Battcar system along with full-length battens helps raise, douse, and reef with ease and acts as extra crew if you’re sailing shorthanded. Battcar systems outperform in-mast or in-boom furling, cost less, and you don’t need to recut your sail. The one-piece solid aluminum construction is lightweight and strong. The free-rolling ball bearing cars let you hoist and reef the main quickly on all points of sail.

What sail modifications are needed for installation?
You need a batten receptacle on your sail to accept a 10 mm or 12 mm threaded stud. Harken does not supply the receptacle.
What maintenance is recommended for the CB Battcar system?
Clean cars by squirting detergent and water into ball bearings, circulate cars, then rinse with water. Clean track with detergent and water. Dry, then apply a drop of ball conditioner.
What safety precautions should be followed during installation?
Strictly follow all instructions to avoid an accident, damage to your vessel, personal injury or death.
Should the batten cars be loaded onto the track with or without the sail installed?
To keep balls captive, Harken recommends loading cars onto the track without the sail installed.
How should screws be inserted for secure track mounting?
Turn screw at least 360° five times after threads engage slug to ensure minimum 5 threads are engaged.
Is the batten receptacle included with the Universal Battcar 3859?
No, you need to purchase the batten receptacle and threaded stud separately for the 3859 Universal Battcar.
How do you load the cars onto the track?
To load cars, place the car on edge with the retaining clip in place. Insert balls one-by-one from the center of clip and roll into return race. Do not overfill.
How do you determine the correct number of ball bearings for the Universal Battcar?
The 3859 Universal Battcar uses 40 Torlon ball bearings, 25 at 5/16" (8mm) diameter, per car.
How do you attach the sail to the cars?
Start with the lowest car, align the toggle and insert the clevis pin. Tighten the locknut until the bottom tip of the fastener is flush with the nut.
Is it necessary to remove the sail to clean the cars and tracks?
For thorough cleaning, remove the sail and then remove cars from the track for cleaning.

We only use first-class delivery carriers, like UPS and DHL. There's an "Express Delivery" option for many shipping destinations available.
It should not take more than 2-4 days to any European location, 3-6 days to any USA-based location, and 3-7 days worldwide.
When you've placed your order, you can follow-up the shipping on the "My Account" section, with detail information about parcel status.
We will also notify you by email or SMS continously about each shipping activity.
