Overview
A Harken Battcar system along with full-length battens helps raise, douse, and reef with ease and acts as extra crew if you’re sailing shorthanded. Battcar systems outperform in-mast or in-boom furling, cost less, and you don’t need to recut your sail. The one-piece solid aluminum construction is lightweight and strong. The free-rolling ball bearing cars let you hoist and reef the main quickly on all points of sail.

What tools are required for installation of the Battcar system?
You will need a tape measure, Allen wrench (5mm), power drill, drill bit (17/64"), Phillips screwdriver, hammer, hacksaw, center punch, file, nut driver (10mm), putty knife, and tape.
How do I prepare the car for installation regarding ball bearings?
The 3856 Battcar requires 40 brown Torlon® balls (5/16" diameter each). Insert balls into the car one by one from the center of the clip.
Should the sail be attached during car installation?
It is recommended to load cars onto the track without the sail installed to keep balls captive.

No, the batten receptacle must be purchased separately.
How should the car and balls be loaded onto the track?
Place the car on edge with the retaining clip in place. Insert balls one-by-one from the center of the clip and roll into return race.
Are there any tips for handling the headboard car during loading?
Hold the car so the clevis pin head faces up. Align on the loader's guide section and gently roll onto upper tracks. If cars stick, realign and roll on.
How should the threaded stud be attached?
Screw the threaded stud into the terminal, load the toggle using a 5mm Allen wrench and 10 mm wrench, then tighten the locknut.
