Overview
Favored by skippers and crew, Harken Battcar systems let you raise, douse, and reef the main instantly from the cockpit, even when close reaching in a big breeze. Harken’s award-winning Switch T-Track Battcar system cuts the stack height of mainsails on large yachts by half, making it much easier for crew to put on sail covers and to connect/disconnect halyards. This simple, yet sophisticated patented switch system neatly stacks cars side-by-side on top of the boom. Harken now offers an option that allows C-Tech batten receptacles to be used with our Battcar systems. The pintles have shoulders that protect the threads from bending, making them more robust.

Who should install or service the 32 mm Switch Battcar system?
Installation, disassembling, and reassembling must be done by expert personnel. Non-experts may cause serious damage or injury.
Is threadlocking adhesive used during track installation?
Apply threadlocking adhesive (blue Loctite) on screws as required, except for areas like the gate track where removal is needed.
What are the primary safety warnings for installing the Battcar system?
Strictly follow all instructions to avoid potential hazards that may kill or hurt you and others. This manual gives technical information on installation and service, intended for specialized personnel or expert users only.
How should tracks be aligned during installation on the mast?
Tracks should be meticulously aligned using a straight edge reference line along the mast; do not let tracks vary from this line.
How should cars be loaded onto the track?
Remove gate track, then install cars from above the switch. Lubricate cars before loading.
What is the procedure for mounting the switch to the mast?
Insert splice links into switch track, align, mark a hole, drill and tap, fasten with a screw without adhesive. Repeat for second hole. For remaining holes, use threadlocking adhesive on screws as required.
Do I use threadlocking adhesive on all screws when mounting tracks?
For gate track, do not use threadlocking adhesive on screws because gate track is removed for loading cars. Other tracks require adhesive as called for in the manual.
Is the system compatible for uses other than normal sailboat applications?
Use of this product for other than normal sailboat applications is not covered by the limited warranty.
What special step is needed when mounting to a curved mast surface?
When mounting to curved surfaces, wedges will be necessary under the switch, and a platform may need to be built on the mast.
When mounting tracks, how do you ensure correct alignment?
