This compact 18′′ closed antenna radar combines ease of use with powerful scanning functions that increase confidence and knowledge of the situation to the maximum while you navigate.
Compatibility with dual radars
Using a dual radar provides redundancy and the possibility of extracting data from one of the two different radar sources in each display unit of the boat.
Dynamic automatic gain
The gain levels are automatically adjusted to the optimal configuration.
Dynamic sea filter
The gain of the radar automatically adjusts the sea filter to calm, medium or chopped sea conditions.
Radar overlay
Overlay radar images on the plotter map page. You can add an optional autopilot or course sensor to get the best results (sold separately).
Tracking of marpa objectives
MARPA tracks the selected targets, which helps to track other vessels and avoid collisions (with the appropriate sensors; sold separately).
Exploration with low noise level
GMR HD3's reliable closed antenna drive motor rotates at 24 rpm, which offers reliable and quiet operation, as well as minimal power consumption.

How should marine sealant be used during installation?
Apply a bead of marine sealant on the mounting surface around each mounting hole and to any routing hole after cables are in place for a waterproof seal.
How do you determine the mounting height when installing on a roof?
Calculate mounting height by multiplying the distance from mounting location to roof edge by 0.222 and subtracting 150 mm (or 6 inches).
How should cables be routed when installing the GMR 18 HD3?
Use tie-wraps, fasteners, and sealant to secure cables, avoid running them near moving objects or heat sources, and route away from radio antenna lines.
How should the power cable be connected?
Connect the red wire to the battery positive terminal and the black wire to the negative terminal, keeping the in-line fuse in place.
How should the radar be aligned when mounting?
Position the radome on the mounting surface aligned to the front of the vessel using the arrow on the bottom as a reference.
How is the radar operated and controlled?
All functions are controlled using a compatible Garmin chartplotter.
How far from magnetic compasses should the radar be mounted?
The GMR 18 HD3 must be at least 1.2 m (3.9 ft.) away from magnetic compasses to avoid interference.
How should power cable extensions be handled?
If you need to extend the power cable, use the appropriate wire gauge for the extension length: 16 AWG for 2m, 14 AWG for 4m, 12 AWG for 6m.
What should be checked before drilling or cutting?
Always check the opposite side to avoid damaging the vessel before drilling or cutting.
What is the minimum safe distance from people during operation?
Minimum distance options are: 0.08m for 100 W/m², 0.11m for 50 W/m², and 0.25m for 10 W/m² of RF exposure.
