Installation requires a #2 Phillips screwdriver, 6 mm hex wrench, drill with 15 mm and optionally 32 mm drill bits, 17 mm wrench/torque wrench, 3.31 mm² (12 AWG) copper wire, and marine sealant.
What are the main installation steps?
Main steps are: secure the mounting template, drill holes, mount the radar onto the surface, insert threaded rods, secure with washers/nuts, and torque the hex nuts to 14.7 N-m (11 lbf-ft).
How is the cable cover installed?
After mounting and cable connections, slide the cable cover onto the pedestal and secure it with the attached screws.
How do you ensure safe wiring for power connections?
Connect the power cable with the in-line fuse holder intact. Use both 15 A (in power cable) and 30 A (between converter and battery) fuses to prevent damage or fire hazards.
What mounting location considerations are important for this radar?
The radar should be mounted high above the ship’s keel line, on a flat surface parallel to the water line, away from heat sources and obstructions. It must also be out of range of people, with the vertical beam width above head height, observing the minimum safe distance in the product specifications.
How should the radar be grounded?
Connect a 3.31 mm² (12 AWG) copper wire from the pedestal to a water ground location. If using a voltage converter, ground it separately with another wire to boat RF ground.
Which networks is this radar compatible with?
This device uses Garmin BlueNet networking and is compatible with both Garmin BlueNet devices and Garmin Marine Network devices.
What wire gauges should be used for power cable extensions?
Use 12 AWG for up to 3 m, 10 AWG for 5 m, 9 AWG for 6.5 m, and 8 AWG for 8 m cable extensions.
Does the device require a voltage converter?
If your radar is packaged with a voltage converter, you must use it. Do not use converters from older models or third parties, as this can damage the radar.
